2024 Quebec Climate Solutions Festival
Donald Martocello
June 25th, 2024
Coastal Carbon is proud to have participated in the 2024 Quebec Climate Solutions Festival in Montreal (June 17-18, 2024). Our Oceanography Lead Donald Martocello joined a panel of experts to discuss and debate the scientific and commercial viability of various nature-based solutions ranging from terrestrial enhanced rock weathering to marine biomass (seaweed, kelp, eelgrass, mangroves, etc.) sequestration. From this lively discussion emerged the clear consensus that ocean-based carbon dioxide removal solutions (such as marine biomass sequestration) have tremendous potential to scale, and need only robust monitoring, response, and verification (MRV). As an innovator in the marine MRV space with our novel AI coupled remote-sensing based approach, Coastal Carbon is eager to meet this challenge and we are grateful for the opportunity to speak on the importance of MRV in enabling the way forward to scalable ocean carbon capture solutions! Thank you to all the incredible organizers, fellow panelists, and attendees for such a spectacular festival of innovation and intellectual exchange!
Nature-based solutions Debate Panelists (Left to Right): Olivier Kölmel (Manager of Climate Change - Cree Nation Government), Lauren McGuire (VP RBCx Banking), Jason Taylor (Founding & Managing Partner at Clariti Solutions), and Donald Martocello (Oceanography Lead at Coastal Carbon).
